REFEREES’ ADMINISTRATOR

The newly-appointed Referees’ Administrator for 2019 is Donal Shorten of St. Mary’s. Shorten, a well-known referee, who has just retired as a knight of the whistle, will advise the SW Board CCC on the appointment of referees for championship games as well as looking after refereeing matters in the division. With the present difficulty in recruiting new referees the role of administrator is a vital one to the welfare of the association in the Carbery area.

GPO APPOINTMENT

The Carbery Board is pleased to announce the appointment of Paudie Crowley, Skibbereen, as the first ever G.P.O (Games Promotion Officer).for the division.  This appointment, with the financial backing of Cairde Chorcaí and the 26 clubs in the division, will greatly help the standard of coaching in our clubs, national schools and secondary schools. We wish Paudie the very best in his new role.

LEAGUE CO-ORDINATORS

The SW Football leagues, Divisions 1,2 and 3 are now underway, with the hurling leagues, Divisions 1 and 2, due to begin on March 2nd/3rd. Co-ordinator for the football leagues is the Board P.R.O. Martina Burns, while co-ordinator for the hurling leagues is vice-chairperson, Aidan O’Rourke,. Clubs wishing to change league dates must contact (email) the Rúnaí, Donal McCarthaigh, and the co-ordinator. Only the club secretary may contact the Rúnaí and co-ordinator. League fixtures must be finalised by Tuesday night, 8p.m., each week so that referees can be secured for the games etc.

CARBERY GAA MONTHLY AWARD

The winners of the Carbery GAA Monthly award for January are Sacred Heart Secondary School Clonakilty and St Brogans College Bandon. The girls from Clonakilty won the Munster Colleges Second Level Junior B Camogie Championship while St Brogans were crowned Cork Colleges Senior C Hurling Champions. Well done to both schools.

CLUB FORUM

A Club Forum will take place in Páirc Uí Chaoimh on Saturday, March 9th, from 10 am to 1 pm, to discuss the review of all adult competitions in Cork for the 2020 season. As this review will eventually affect all clubs and all competitions, it is absolutely imperative that all Carbery clubs are represented at the forum and that they make their voices heard. Clubs are entitled to send two delegates for football and two for hurling (one must be a player and the other an officer/mentor).
